It is a pleasure to inform you about the forthcoming Congress ForestSAT-2016 to be organized by the Faculty of Forestry at the Universidad Mayor from 14th to 18th November, 2016. ForestSAT 2016 is the seventh edition of this international scientific conference, which aims to disseminate the latest knowledge gained from research in the field of remote sensing and geomatics in forestry applications.

Previous editions were held in Scotland, Sweden, France, Spain, USA and Italy, marking the first time that ForestSAT will be held in Latin America. The scientific quality of this conference will uphold the high standards of previous editions, and we would like to invite you to prepare abstracts of your research in the general subject areas of the ForestSAT-2016 Conference.

Venue

ForestSAT2016 will take place in a conference center located in the Universidad Mayor, campus Huechuraba (Camino La Pirámide 5750, Huechuraba), in Santiago de Chile.

Themes & Topics

1.- Forest Monitoring

  • Change detection and time series analyses.
  • Natural and human induced disturbances: harvesting, forest fires, storms, insects, disease, drought.
  • Monitoring regeneration, regrowth, succession, encroachment, gap dynamics, and invasive species.

2.- REDD+/FLEGT

  • Use of remote sensing for the analysis of forestry CO2 emissions reduction.
  • Analysis of deforestation, degradation and increased stocks.
  • Estimates of reference levels of forest carbon.
  • Models of forest biomass and carbon.
  • Tools for monitoring, reporting and verification of forest carbon emissions.
  • Supporting the implementation of adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

3.- Latin American Forests

  • Use of remote sensing in the main forest formations in the region.
  • Amazon rainforest.
  • Southern forests.
  • Central America rainforests.
  • Latin American mediterranean forests.
  • Island forest formations.

4.- Forest Mapping and Inventory

  • Approaches for mapping forest types, species, structure, biodiversity indicators and ecosystems services.
  • Space biomass estimates, height, growing stock.
  • Remote sensing guided statistical estimation, uses of inventory data, sampling, stratification.
  • Uncertainty analysis.

5.- Forestry & Forest Management

  • Use of remote sensing and geo-spatial analysis supporting forest management and operations.
  • Forecasts productivity.
  • Models of biodiversity and habitat analysis.
  • Hidrology.

6.- Development of Methods

  • Methods based on optical, microwave and LiDAR data.
  • Classification algorithms, continuous variable modeling.
  • Radiometric and geometric accuracy and precision.
  • Compositing and mosaicking, objects vs. pixels, visualization.
  • Multiscale analysis, data fusion.
  • Radiative transfer modeling, 3-dimensional modeling.
  • Radar interferometry, aerial photogrammetry.
  • UAV experimental applications.
